| Total Lunar Eclipse | Date: 12.20.2010 |
|
Pack your sweaters and jackets! We are going to Minnesota! Sound travels slower in cold air. It is quieter. Light has a more direct path of least resistance in areas that experience great cold because the atmosphere is more stable. After a member related her story of viewing a total lunar eclipse, in her home state of Minnesota, we have decided to host a viewing of the event on Leech Lake. One of Minnesota's largest lakes. If you get too cold, you can watch from your car! Minnesota gets so cold that the ice gets thick enough to sustain the weight of several cars! The actual eclipse starts at 11:27 PM. We will be meeting at the city park, then embarking on our journey to the ice. As a gesture of thanks, our Minnesota members will be providing rooming for all memebers that attend. We do not host many events near them. LOCATION: Leech Lake, Walker, MN TIME: 10:00 PM (CST) |

The planets Venus, Mars, and Saturn will all be close to the thin, crescent moon on this evening. Look to the west just after sunset. So bring your telescope and a friend. We are going to observe these planets! We will first meet in the conference room and share findings with one another, discuss future plans and then make our way to a great viewing location. The viewing location will be decided depending on weather and viewability.
